Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

• Contact details. Your name, email address and phone number, and roughly where you're located (Melbourne metro, regional Victoria or interstate).
• Your vehicle. The state it's registered in and its number plate; the make, model, year, variant, body type, transmission, drive type and colour; its odometer reading, number of keys and service history; how you rate its interior and exterior condition; and anything you tell us in the notes field.
• Vehicle data from a lookup. If you enter a number plate, we look it up with a vehicle data provider and receive the vehicle's details, which can include its VIN, engine number, build and compliance dates. This is information about the car rather than about you, but we treat it as personal information once it's linked to your enquiry.
• Your messages. What you send through our contact form, and anything you tell us by phone, SMS or email.
• How you found us, if you tell us (for example Google, Facebook or Instagram).
• Technical information. Your browser and device type, and your IP address. We use the IP address to stop spam and abuse and store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it with your enquiry. If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics also collects the pages you view and how you use them (see section 6).

We don't ask for sensitive information such as health information or government identifiers, and we ask that you don't send it to us through the website. We collect your information directly from you, except for the vehicle details we look up from the number plate you give us.

2. Why we collect it

• To assess your vehicle and make you an offer for it.
• To contact you about your enquiry by phone, SMS and email, and to arrange an inspection, the purchase and payment.
• To pass your enquiry to our related business and trade partners who may make an offer on or buy your vehicle (see section 3).
• To answer questions you send us.
• To protect the site from spam, fraud and misuse.
• With your consent, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
• To meet our legal obligations, including record-keeping obligations that apply when we buy a vehicle.

If you don't give us your contact details we can't come back to you with an offer, which is the purpose of the form. You can call us on (03) 8760 0077 instead if you'd prefer not to use it.

3. Who we share it with

We may disclose your personal information to:

• Car Depot and EV Depot (cardepot.au and evdepot.au), related businesses operated by Alfie Automotive Pty Ltd. Every enquiry made through this website goes to Car Depot as well as our buying team, and they may contact you about buying your vehicle.
• Other dealer and wholesale buyers who may make an offer on or buy your vehicle, where that helps us get you a price. They receive your enquiry, including your contact and vehicle details.
• EvalExpert, the vehicle appraisal platform our buying team uses. It provides the number plate lookup, and when you submit the form it receives your name, phone, email, location and the vehicle and condition details so we can manage your appraisal.
• Service providers who run our systems for us: Vercel (website hosting), Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery of enquiries to our team), Upstash (rate limiting, which receives only a hashed identifier), vehicle data providers for the number plate lookup, our website and digital agency (which maintains the site and keeps a backup copy of enquiries), and, if you allow it, Google Analytics.
• Anyone else you authorise, or where we are required or permitted by law, for example to a government agency or to the police.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. Vercel, Supabase, Resend, Upstash and Google may handle data in the United States and other countries where they or their subprocessors operate. We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information consistently with the APPs. Our related business and trade partners are in Australia.

5. Marketing and how to opt out

When you submit an enquiry, we, Car Depot and our partners may contact you about it by phone, SMS and email, including to follow up if you haven't sold your vehicle yet.

You can opt out of marketing at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, reply STOP to a marketing SMS, email us at info@selldirect.au, or use our Your Privacy Choices page. We'll action it within 5 business days. Opting out of marketing doesn't stop us contacting you about an offer that's already under way.

6. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to run the site and remember your cookie choices. With your consent we also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages people visit and how far they get through the offer form. Google Analytics is run by Google, which may process the data outside Australia. Until you accept, it sets no cookies and sends no identifying data. We don't pass your name, email or phone number to Google Analytics.

We don't use advertising cookies on this site today. If we add tools to measure our ads (such as Google Ads or the Meta Pixel), they will only run if you have switched on advertising cookies, and we'll update this policy first. We honour a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out of advertising cookies.

If you use our form inside the Car Depot or EV Depot website, we don't ask again: we follow the cookie choice you made on that site. Our contact page shows a map embedded from Google Maps, which Google provides under its own privacy policy and which may set its own cookies.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer, or opt out of everything optional in one step on our Your Privacy Choices page. Switching a category off deletes the cookies it set. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

7. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. The site is served over HTTPS, enquiries are stored in a database that the public website can't read directly, access is limited to the people who need it, and we store IP addresses only in hashed form.

We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet our legal obligations, then destroy or de-identify it.

8. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. Email info@selldirect.au. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we'll respond within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we'll tell you why in writing and how to complain.

9. Complaints

If you think we've mishandled your personal information, contact us first at info@selldirect.au or on (03) 8760 0077. We'll look into it and respond in writing within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) on 1300 363 992 or at oaic.gov.au.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
